PROJECTS

GIS Advisory Outreach works in partnership with Love to Langa Cape Town (a registered PBO) the South African affiliate arm of Love to Langa (USA), and local business to facilitate various projects within the Western Cape.

Here are a few of the outreach projects we have had the privilege of facilitating thus far.

LOVE TO LANGA LIBRARY IN PHILIPPI (2013)

The children in Philippi needed a quiet place to study, do homework and read.

Love to Langa recognized the need and with the assistance of an American volunteer, Anthony Johnson, assisted and planned the break down of the old, dilapidated pre-fabricated part of an existing facility to create a new classroom and library. The capacity of the early childhood development centre was increased from 200 to 280 children.

THE LOVE TO LANGA SWIMMING ACADEMY

In 2013, Love to Langa researched child safety in South Africa. Interestingly water safety was not focused on in specific areas especially in the farming communities where children were drowning in dams on farms. A learn to swim, indoor, heated swimming pool for year-round lessons for the Philippi community was completed in 2016.

This is an ongoing project as Love to Langa monitors and evaluates the running and progress of the swimming academy. As of 2018, the Love to Langa Swimming Academy is officially sustainable and operating at maximum capacity.

LOVE TO LANGA GRADE R CLASS

Although many parents are aware of the importance of Grade R as a year that bridges the gap between pre-school and primary school, not many realize how fundamentally important this phase is in a child’s life. During this time a
child starts to develop a sense of self and acquires skills such as responsibility and independence. It’s also during this phase of a child’s life that they learn about consequences.

Children also learn very important survival skills in Grade R, which will assist them in the fast-paced world we live in
today:

* Critical thinking
* Problem solving
* The ability to communicate well
* Being able to collaborate with others
* Creativity

Grade R is often confused with a free year of play; however, play is the root of some very important learning experiences. Children need to learn through
doing and using their five senses and the best way to do this naturally is through play.
Love to Langa is passionate about preparing children for Grade R.

Love to Langa embarked on this building project with gusto as research has proven that a spacious, well equipped, prepared environment are the
ingredients for a successful classroom.

HAZEL’S CENTRE OF HOPE (Place of Safety)

There are many reported and unreported cases of child abuse. Hazel, a mother and grandmother, saw the need to open a place of safety for children.
Her first call was to Social Development and to connect with a social worker in the area to offer her house as place of safety.
After many interviews, home inspections and ongoing parent courses, Hazel’s is now an official place of safety. As required by law a parent may have six children at a time before the children are placed permanently elsewhere or returned to their families.
We are proud to say Hazel always has six children.

(Because Hazel’s is a place of safety we may not share photographs of the children.)

CORPORATE & COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE

Love to Langa CT has a long-standing relationship with First National Bank (FNB) where we assist with any FNB school upgrades, feeding schemes and much more.
